What we know so far
Samsung's next foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, is now expected to come sometime in 'early July'.At the moment, rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could borrow some design elements from the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition - a slimmer, more stylish version with slightly bigger screens, currently sold only in South Korea and China.
Despite earlier fears of ditching the S Pen, it now seems the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will keep it. Not only that, but there might be a new S Pen, an upgraded one.
The Z Fold 7 is expected to feature Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. In the beginning, some rumors claimed to expect an Exynos chip, but it's more than likely those were wrong.

Apart from maybe being a little slimmer and lighter, the phone's overall shape likely won't change too much. One possible improvement is a less visible crease on the inner screen - which would definitely be a nice touch! As for the price, it's expected to be similar to last year's model, though a small increase hasn't been ruled out just yet.
The Z Fold 7 might get a big boost in the camera department, with some rumors saying it may include a 200MP main lens – just like the Special Edition. If this turns out to be true, it could easily be one of the phone's best features.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 release date
We currently expect Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in the summer, possibly in early July.
Samsung holds annual Galaxy Unpacked events, where it traditionally announces its foldable phones, sometime in July or August.
Last year's summer Galaxy Unpacked event took place on July 10, where Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Stay tuned, as we'll be keeping an eye out for any official announcements!

Some rumors say to expect the same pricing strategy as last year, while others hint at a potential price increase given the Z Fold Special Edition is one pricey device (not that the current Folds aren't). So far, it can go either way. Here's what we expect in terms of the potential Galaxy Z Fold 7 price.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 deals to expect:
Samsung: Samsung traditionally offers generous trade-in deals on its own website, in addition to carrier deals. For example, the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be had with up to $1,200 off in trade-in credit, from Samsung's website.
Verizon: When such a premium phone is first introduced, carriers, including Verizon, offer generous deals. It's likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be available with a discount of up to $1000 with an eligible trade-in and a new line on an Unlimited plan.
T-Mobile: T-Mobile is also expected to be generous with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 deals, just like it's always been with premium Samsung Galaxies. You can expect a few deals to choose from: you may be able to pick from up to $1000 off with a trade-in and eligible plan (usually Go5G Plus or Go5G Next), or up to $600-$800 off with a new line.
AT&T: AT&T is also likely to offer up to $1000 off with an eligible trade-in and certain unlimited plans for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, just like it does for the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Verizon: When such a premium phone is first introduced, carriers, including Verizon, offer generous deals. It's likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be available with a discount of up to $1000 with an eligible trade-in and a new line on an Unlimited plan.

It's worth noting that according to a late 2023 leak, Samsung may have to deal with a higher-priced chipset in 2025, which could potentially lead to a bump in prices of its flagship phones, including the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. For now, we can still reasonably speculate that its price will remain the same as the Z Fold 6, but we'll let you know whether this prediction could have any merit, as soon as more information on the matter comes up.

Meanwhile, a new leak has detailed the biggest upgrades we expect to see from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it once again drills into us the 200MP camera. It seems it may really be happening, which is excellent news.
On the front cover of the phone, you may find a punch-hole selfie camera - most likely a 10MP sensor.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 storage

Based on Samsung's track record with the Z Fold series, we can expect the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to start with 256GB of storage, with 512GB and 1TB variants also available, for a higher price. A recent leak also confirmed the storage capacities of the phone, corroborating what was earlier expected.
Of course, no chance of external storage (SD card slot), as is the norm for modern flagships, unfortunately, so whatever storage you get the phone with - you'll be stuck with that.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 design
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to keep the same design language as its predecessor. However, a multitude of refinements may make the 2025 Fold feel entirely new in comparison to the Fold 6.

At first glance, this phone (here, in the folded state) looks almost the same as its predecessor. However, there are a couple of subtle changes which are visible if you stare at the image for a bit. First off, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 shown here doesn't appear to have metallic borders, which could mean we may see a titanium backplate (and reduced thickness!). Also, the flash unit is a bit lower.
Earlier, a dubious leak indicated that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may be way thinner than what was rumored earlier. Well, this ended up to be wishful thinking (most likely). So for now, the Z Fold 7 may not be able to challenge the world's thinnest foldable.

The current latest info about the Fold 7 says the thickness when folded may be 9 mm. That is still a big jump from Samsung's latest attempt at a slim-chic foldable phone, which is the 10.6mm of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. As for the thickness when unfolded, this one is likely to be around 4mm.
With that in mind, we can expect the Z Fold 7 to wider, more like other foldables on the market, as opposed to the still-narrow Galaxy Z Fold 6 and 5 (when closed). In addition, we can expect a slightly thinner and lighter build - 236 grams, down from the 239 grams of the Z Fold 6.
The widening of the cover screen is particularly interesting, as it's a feature many Z Fold users have been requesting for a while now. It means that, finally, Z Fold 7 users won't have to compromise with a narrow screen when the phone is closed, but will get a pretty traditional smartphone experience from the cover screen.
Previously, reputable analyst Ross Young said that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will get bigger screens, as it will be a carbon copy of the limited-region Z Fold 6 Special Edition.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 may have bigger vapor chamber for cooling. However, keep in mind that the source for this rumor doesn't have the best track record, so take this info with a grain of salt. Additionally, we've heard that the new Fold may feature dust and water resistance optimization. This sounds particularly exciting as the Fold 6 doesn't have dust resistance at all.
Meanwhile, rumors are contradictory on whether or not the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will support the S Pen accessory. As you may know, the S Pen is sold separately and not housed within the Fold's body. Rumors about the Z Fold 7 being a copy of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition have had us concerned it may not support the accessory. However, judging by the majority of leaks (by reputable sources), the S Pen support may actually stay, and on top of that, the accessory may be redesigned.

As we previously, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be a heavily inspired by the Galaxy Z Fold SE. With that in mind, we can expect its cover screen to get wider and larger, at 6,5 inches, up from 6,3 on the Z Fold 6.
The main attraction – the folding screen – will also get larger at 8 inches, from 7,6 on the Z Fold 6. Rumors indicate we may have an improved display crease, which should dramatically level up the experience with the foldable. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a more pronounced crease than other competitors, so an improvement in that department is definitely welcome.
On top of that, a reputable tipster recently said that the inner display's bezel may shrink to just 1mm. For reference, the Fold 6's bezel is around 1.9mm, so Samsung may have managed to get rid of almost a full millimeter of bezel. This change would make the new foldable's display feel more immersive, and also would contribute to a more modern look and aesthetic.
During MWC, Samsung displayed a prototype with a crease-less display, but the company didn't say it was the Z Fold 7 (and it doesn't necessarily match other leaks, so it's likely just a prototype device to show off the screen):
Both screens on the Z Fold 7 will be dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X, with 120Hz refresh rate, and 2600 nits of peak brightness, meaning flagship specs, and great visibility outdoors. Again based on what we see on the Z Fold 6 SE, we can expect the folding screen to have a 1968-by-2184 resolution, with 367 PPI (pixels-per-inch).
From my own experience with recent Galaxy Z Fold models, the inner display has come a long way. It's now much more resistant to small scratches and fingernail marks, which is a big step up from earlier generations. As for the crease in the middle - where all the folding action happens - it's still very much there, though it's expected to be a bit less visible, especially under softer lighting. You'll may feel it when you swipe across.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 battery
Yet again based on the Special Edition Z Fold Samsung released in South Korea and China, we can expect the Z Fold 7 to pack a 4,400 mAh battery, split around the folding hinge.
That's exactly the same size as the current Z Fold 6's battery, and during our Galaxy Z Fold 6 review testing, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 didn't really march up to the competition. We saw up to 12h and 42m of web browsing on a single charge, which, although not terrible, is actually worse than the likes of the OnePlus Open, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and foldable models by Huawei and Honor. The slightly larger screens on the upcoming Z Fold 7 may have an effect on those numbers as well.
When it comes to charging, the Z Fold 7 is expected to stick with 25W wired speeds. A recent leak has also corroborated this, which is frankly a bit disappointing in 2025. No upgrades for wireless charging either - still may be capped at 15W, with reverse wireless charging at 4.5W. In short, the battery setup looks like a repeat of the previous model, which isn't exactly exciting news.
Meanwhile, some Chinese foldable rivals have already jumped to blazing-fast charging and slimmer battery tech, but don't expect Samsung to follow suit just yet. That said, the company is reportedly working on its own next-gen battery tech - specifically a folding battery. Whether that innovation makes it into the Z Fold 7 or gets saved for a future model remains to be seen.

Like Samsung's other upcoming foldable - the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to come with Samsung's upcoming One UI 7 interface, running on top of Android 15. A new rumor, however, gives us hope for something even cooler: potentially Samsung may accelerate the development of One UI 8, and the foldable may come with the Android-16 based skin instead of One UI 7.
This rumor recently got corroborated by a Geekbench listing of the U.S. version of the phone, which ran One UI 8 and Android 16.
It is not clear yet exactly what new features One UI 8 would bring. Google will show us Android 16 during Google I/O on May 20-21, so at least, we'll know what Android's new OS will introduce.
Meanwhile, One UI 7 is now officially rolling out to some Samsung phones. If One UI 8 is not ready by the time the Fold has to be released, it will likely ship with One UI 7.

The updated One UI 7 will also bring a fresh look, along with new ways to make your device feel more personal. One cool feature is the Now Bar - and yes, it does remind many people of Apple’s Dynamic Island (depending on who you ask, it might look very similar). It offers quick access to things like timers, music, voice memos, and more, right at the top of your screen.
Like its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to feature Flex Mode – a handy option that activates when the phone is partially folded, allowing it to stand on its own like a mini laptop. It's perfect for video calls, watching videos, or multitasking, with apps like YouTube adjusting to show the video on the top half and controls on the bottom.
Another highlight is Samsung DeX. It transforms the Fold into a full desktop experience when plugged into a monitor, complete with a taskbar and movable app windows - one of the best Android desktop setups out there, especially useful for productivity on the go.

Good news for those who like to use their smartphones for longer than the average is the fact that we can expect regular software and security updates for a good seven years. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 should be nice and safe to use at least until 2031.

So far, the majority of leakers are unanimous on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 getting Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Some rumors indicate it may be a binned version with 7 cores instead of 8. It's also always possible that Samsung may got for a regional split between Qualcomm's chip and it's own Exynos, like it did with the Galaxy S24 series. This is the less likely rumor though, but it's there.
Meanwhile, a U.S. variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with Snapdragon 8 Elite has been spotted recently in Geekbench's database. The version is listed with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and not just that, but it's overclocked version: the one branded "for Galaxy". The listing also showed the phone sporting 12GB of RAM, just like it's predecessor, and running One UI 8 on top of Android 16.
Earlier, we hoped for 16GB of RAM for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but the leaked Geekbench listing is now crushing these hopes almost entirely. 12GB of RAM isn't terrible, per se, but phones are evolving now and 16GB is becoming standard, so hopefully Samsung is thinking about more RAM for the upcoming Fold.
Should I wait for Galaxy Z Fold 7?
- You should wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 if you've been hoping for a wider Z Fold that feels more like a regular phone when closed. Personally, that's a big reason I'm excited, because I could never fully get used to the narrow Z Folds before. Also, if you're thinking about upgrading to a well-known, feature-packed foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 sounds like it could be a great choice.
- You should not wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 if you already own a Pixel 9 Pro Fold, or a Galaxy Z Fold 5 or 6 that you're happy with, and don't mind the latter two's narrow and tall external screen. Besides the aforementioned bigger screens and its sharper design, the Z Fold 7 will likely not give you much of a good reason to upgrade. If you were planning to upgrade for OneUI 7 and its AI features, no need - those will all make it to your older Z Fold.
